Traditionally, Persephone returned to Earth in the fall, winter and spring, but returned to Hades in the summer (when plant life did not flourish and suffer drought). As a name given to women, Autumn has only been around since the 1960s. It's most popular in the United States, but is also used with respectable frequency in Canada and the UK.
