9. Visit the monasteries of Meteora

Meteora is known for its monasteries that sit on top of towering boulders. There are 6 monasteries in Meteora, although at one time there were more than 20, and as a result this was one of the most spectacular religious sites in Greece. Meteora is crowded with ancient stones and monolithic pillars and this is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site because the rock formations provide one of the most beautiful and haunting landscapes in Europe.


10. Go spelunking at Melissani Cave

Located near Karavomilo is Melissani cave, a rugged cave known for its beauty. The cave is nearly 4 km long and formed when water eroded soft rocks over the centuries. Inside the cave is the equally famous Lake Melissani, a groundwater mass discovered in 1951. In ancient times, the cave was dedicated to Nymph Melissani, who named the cave. You can go down the cave through a tunnel and then go to the lake and glide through turquoise water on a boat.
