Here are the best things to do in Trani!

1. Corteinfiore
The decking, stiff tablecloths and marquee setting of this famed Trani seafood restaurant set hope racing, and the food, wine, and service delivery in full. Expect a lot of seafood, and expect it to be great: try Frutti di Mari antipasti or Gallipoli shrimp with lemon candy. Also rents delightful rooms (double €120) decked out in pale colors.
2. Cathedral
This dramatic seaside church is dedicated to St Nicholas the Pilgrim, a Greek Christian who wanders through the crying Puglia 'Kyrie Eleison' ('Lord, be merciful'). First thought to be a simpleton, he was posthumously revered after several miracles attributed to him occurred.
Beneath the church is the catacombs, a forest of ancient pillars that precede the current structure and the place to store the bones of St. Nicholas below the altar. You can also visit the campanile (bell tower).
3. Scolanova Synagogue
This synagogue, one of the four cathedrals once established in the old Jewish district of Trani, has been reborn after more than 600 years. The periodic persecution, forced conversion, and confiscation of the Trani Jews culminated in deportation in 1510.
This 13th-century cathedral was converted into a Christian church. in an earlier wave of hatred, circa 1380. Abandoned in the mid-20th century, it was decoded and returned to life as the original Jewish home of worship.
4. Ognissanti Church
Traditionally (but controversial) supposedly built by Knights Templar in the 12th century, this church has become a place of blessing for those who set out in the Crusades.
Legend has it that it was in this austere and solemn building, the knights of the First Crusade swore their allegiance to their leader, Antioch's Bohemond I, before setting out to 'liberate' the Holy Land. Whatever the truth, it's a treasured example of the Pugliese-Romanesque architecture of the period.
5. Castello
Charles V then fortified the fortifications and It was used as a prison from 1844 to 1974. While the moat is now dry, the ingenious engineers originally devised a system allowing the level of seawater in it to be precisely controlled.
6. Paninart
This compact and modern piece is created by classical soul music combining delicious salads and high-value panini sandwiches with a selection of local wines and Puglian craft beers. There's brilliant harbourfront seating outside and excellent service from the young waitstaff. Try the U Purp sandwich, stuffed with soft lemon-marinated octopus.
7. La Darsena
Famous for seafood, La Darsena is located in a palace by the river. Dishes such as cavatelli (pasta) with mussels and salted ricotta just sing with unabashed flavor.
8. Check Out The Svevo Castle
One of the key sights in Trani is the Svevo Castle, a fortress located on the sea and close to the Trani Cathedral that was built by Frederick II of Swabia in 1233. Despite its important history, the castle sits so majestically on the seafront and the views from around it were some of the best Trani had to offer.
Svevo Castle is open from 8:30 am until 7:30 pm to visitors and has been accepting visitors since 1998.
My experience at Svevo Castle was so ‘meh’ it hurts. The entrance fee is €5 and I can think of about 100 other things that €5 would have been better spent on. I went in merely to feel cultured and take some photos so I could write about it.
Turns out, the entire thing was under construction and was barren and boring. There weren’t even any views of the sea at the time!
9. Visit The Trani Cathedral
Near the harbor and going toward the castle sits the picturesque Trani Cathedral. Also referred to as the Cathedral of San Nicolás, the gorgeous building dates back to the 12th century and was built with sandy, pink stones with a 60-meter tall bell tower.
The Romanesque building is open to visitors daily from 8 am until 6 pm. It definitely is one of the best places to photograph and visit Trani.
10. See The Trani Harbor
When I arrived in Trani, I checked out my Google Maps and headed straight for the water. Having previously spent time in Polignano a Mare and Monopoli, I was expecting rugged cliffs and not much going on in the harbor if there was a real one. I was completely blown away by the harbor in Trani.
