El Mercado is the put to go to fulfill all your Latin American needs. The marketplace contains fruits, vegetables and spices that can be hard to find in the Hartford area. And the restaurants, ohh the restaurants. There are Colombian, Peruvian and Mexican vendors within the marketplace. Three tacos run from $5-6.50 at the Mexican restaurant. The barbacoa, chorizo, and al pastor? Bomb dot com. The flautas, churros and tamales are other go-tos.

2. THE MARKET RESTAURANT
The Market Restaurant is found on the grounds of the Connecticut Farmer’s Regional Market. They serve breakfast and lunch. During market season you can stock up on fresh, local produce while also grabbing a delicious, home-cooked meal.

3. MODERN PASTRY SHOP
The amazing cakes these guys create should have their own TV show. (Check out their Facebook page to see photos.) They aren’t just cakes though. There are loads of traditional Italian and French pastries to stuff your face with.

4. EL POETA DE LOS SANDWICHES
They have sandwiches in their name, which means the sandwiches have to be good. Right? Guess what. The whole menu is fantastic. (But seriously, get a sandwich because they knock them out of the park every time.)

5. TASTEASE MINI DONUTS
They don’t have a website, so you’re just going to have to trust that this tiny Parkville Bakery is one of Hartford’s best and worst kept secrets. Those who have visited once, become fanatical and tell everyone who will listen to them about this unbelievable place they just found. Those who have never been, don’t have any idea that they’re wandering around missing the most perfect little treats.
Hours: Moonday through Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Sadly, closed on Sunday.

6. ADOLF’S MEAT AND SAUSAGE MARKET
Amazing, old school sausage centered butcher shop where you'll be able fulfill all your meaty needs. Make sure you ask about one of their magic snack-sized house-smoked meat sticks before you start shopping. You can’t go wrong with a little walkin’ around meat.

7. J’S CRAB SHACK
