7. Experience the winter solstice at Newgrange – Newgrange, Co. Meath

Newgrange is best known for the illumination of its walkways and chambers by the Winter Solstice sun. Above the entrance to the mound's path, there is an opening called a roof box. On mornings around the winter solstice, a beam of light pierces the box on the roof and goes up the 19-meter walkway and into the chamber.

As the sun rises higher, the beam expands so that the entire room is strongly illuminated.

10. Go to Ireland’s Biggest Race – the Northwest 200, Co. Derry

The North West 200 is a motor racing meeting held in May along the northern coast of Ireland.

The course is a street, made up of public roads running between the towns of Portstewart, Coleraine, and Portrush (Triangle) which is one of the fastest roads in the world, with speeds exceeding 200 miles per hour. (320 km / h).

In fact for the 2012 event, Martin Jessopp reached a speed of 208 mph (335 km / h). This is one of about fifteen events taking place on public roads from April to October throughout the island of Ireland.

This is the largest annual sporting event in Ireland, with a weekend race that attracts more than 150,000 visitors from around the world.
