However, this is the place to go if you're interested in a whale-watching tour or a kayaking excursion on the bay.
Take a quick stroll on Old Fisherman's Wharf for panoramic views of the bay, not to mention sunbathing seals on nearby rocks and buoys. While here, be sure to taste the clam chowder. 8. Hit the road

If you don’t have time to head south, the 17-mile Drive, a famous stretch of private coastal road that follows the Monterey Peninsula is an excellent backup. Catch the road in Pebble Beach but, be warned, the route costs $10.25 per vehicle.
9. World-class golfing
The Monterey Peninsula is lousy with beautiful golf courses, but Pebble Beach Golf Links may be its finest. The “greatest meeting of land and sea in American golf,” as Golf Digest puts it, the seaside course routinely tops worldwide rankings.
Two-night stay at the Lodge at Pebble Beach is normally required for a tee time, however, which at $900 per night makes for an expensive 18 holes. For a worthy and (considerably cheaper) substitute, head over to the Pacific Grove municipal course.
The front nine feature sweeping views of the Pacific and the back half of the course was designed by Jack Neville, who also co-designed the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links.
